Kitten Upgrades: The Biggest Multipliers in the Game
What Is Milk?
Milk is a percentage value derived entirely from your achievement count. Every normal achievement you unlock adds 4% milk. There is no other way to increase it.
The formula is straightforward: Milk = achievements × 4%
So if you have 100 achievements, your milk is 400%. If you have 200 achievements, it is 800%. Milk itself does nothing on its own — it is the input that Kitten upgrades use to calculate their bonus.
The Kitten Upgrades
Each Kitten upgrade provides a CpS multiplier that scales with your current milk percentage. They stack multiplicatively with each other and with all other multipliers. The upgrades unlock at progressively higher cookie costs:
- Kitten helpers — costs 9 million cookies
- Kitten workers — costs 9 billion cookies
- Kitten engineers — costs 90 trillion cookies
- Kitten overseers — costs 90 quadrillion cookies
- Kitten managers — costs 900 sextillion cookies
- Kitten angels — a Heavenly upgrade (costs 9,000 Heavenly Chips), available after ascending
Because they multiply your total CpS, buying a Kitten upgrade is almost always more efficient than buying more buildings — as long as you have enough milk to make the multiplier meaningful.
Why Achievements Matter So Much
Since milk comes entirely from achievements, every achievement you unlock directly increases the power of all your Kitten upgrades. This creates a compounding effect: more achievements → more milk → stronger Kittens → more CpS → easier to afford buildings → more building milestones → more achievements.
Building milestone achievements (at 1, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, and 600 of each building) are the most reliable source of new achievements in the mid and late game. Each one adds 4% milk, which feeds directly into your Kitten multipliers.
The Permanent Upgrade Slot Strategy
After your first ascension, you unlock Permanent Upgrade Slot I (costs 100 Heavenly Chips). This lets you keep one upgrade across resets. The near-universal recommendation is to put your highest-tier Kitten upgrade in this slot.
The reason is simple: Kittens multiply everything from the very first second of your new run. With a Kitten in your permanent slot, you will reach your previous production levels in minutes instead of hours, because the multiplier applies to every building you buy from the start.
As you unlock more Permanent Upgrade Slots (Slot II costs 20,000 HC, Slot III costs 3,000,000 HC), you can keep additional Kittens or other high-value upgrades like synergy upgrades.
Kitten Angels: The Prestige Kitten
Kitten angels is a Heavenly upgrade that costs 9,000 Heavenly Chips. It functions like a regular Kitten upgrade but is available from the very start of each run because it is a prestige upgrade, not a regular one. It is one of the highest-priority purchases in the mid-game prestige tree.
Practical Tips
- Always buy a Kitten upgrade as soon as it becomes available. The multiplier it provides will almost always outpace buying more buildings.
- Before ascending, check if you are close to any building milestones. Reaching the next milestone (e.g., 100 of a building) gives you an achievement and increases your milk, which makes your Kittens stronger in the next run.
- Shadow achievements (like "True Neverclick") also count toward milk, but they are extremely difficult to obtain and should not be prioritized unless you are specifically going for them.
- The Mokalsium spirit in the Pantheon (Temple Lv.1 required) provides a bonus to milk effects when slotted in the Diamond position, further amplifying your Kitten multipliers.
